How to Ask Powerful Coaching Questions

Life isn't about reaching for the answers, it's about having powerful questions and living them. Then as Rilke wisely said, one day we may find that we have lived ourselves into the answers. I love asking this question when I coach clients. Unconsciously we make our lives, goals and dreams smaller than they could be if we dared to imagine. There's always more to us.

Here are some more powerful questions to ask yourself, your partner, your friends, or your team.

  1. If this idea is a 4, what would a 9 look like?

  2. What does this relationship need to thrive?

  3. What’s important about this?

  4. What’s the cost if nothing changes? What’s the benefit?

  5. What’s the cost or benefit if it does changes?

  6. What’s one small action you could take right now that would have the biggest impact on your life?

  7. What are you putting off?

  8. So what?

  9. What would a wise and compassionate friend say to you right now?

  10. What’s your first small step?

  11. How will you feel about this in a week/month/year/ten years?

  12. What values do you want to honour?

  13. What are you going to regret on your last day on earth?
